Welcome to our school website,
I hope you find the information you need here on the website and that it gives you a little insight into Harpurhey Alternative Provision School and our offer.
With the continued support of our commissioning schools in the North Manchester Partnership and the Manchester Secondary PRU, HAPS has been through many changes since its original inception in September 2011; I have been fortunate to be part of its development since the beginning. Despite the changes, the core focus has always been to support and offer something different for those students who struggle in a mainstream environment. I am delighted that, as of May 2018, I have been leading the school with the same core values through a new phase in our development. As our students change, so must we to ensure that we respond to their needs and aspirations.
HAPS offers smaller classes, a more compact day and opportunities to develop excellent working relationships between staff and students. This allows us to concentrate student efforts and give them a different foundation and environment in which to change their behaviour and start to access their schoolwork more than, perhaps, they have done previously.
Staff at the provision work very hard to build these positive relationships and provide every opportunity for students tomake progress academically and in their personal development; a real strength in our recent Ofsted report. The focus on improving each student’s life chances is one of our main priorities.
We offer a curriculum that includes subjects such as Maths, English, Science, History, Sport, Art and Citizenship, all intended to lead to outcomes at the end of key stage 4. In this sense, our work is comparable to that of a mainstream offering; an excellent vehicle for enhancing students’ aspirations and opening doors to college, apprenticeships, further training and employment opportunities. Our Results Summary, available on the website, is a good indicator of how our attainment levels are improving, with some students attaining up to 9 GCSE’s in our latest examinationresults from the summer of 2018. Beyond this, our progression rates into further education and training has gone beyond 95% for the last two years. In line with new legislation, we have started to embed careers awareness and opportunities into the curriculum and aim to have a well-established careers plan for students by 2020.
We welcome any opportunity to share our work; if you would like to visit us, please don’t hesitate to contact us at email@example.com
